What Does San Breast Care Offer?
The San has consistently been a leading cancer treatment centre in NSW for both patient experience and cancer outcomes. It has also been recognised internationally as one of the top treatment centres in the world. If you have been diagnosed with breast cancer or there is a strong suspicion that you might have breast cancer, the San Breast Care team will look after you and make sure you have the best treatment possible. We can manage everything for you on site at the San whatever the problem is.
Breast Imaging Surveillance
This is for women who have no breast problem they are aware of, but want the reassurance that their breasts are being thoroughly checked. This will include imaging with mammograms, ultrasound and MRI as needed. For some women, expert advice on an ongoing surveillance program may be needed from one of our breast specialists. If an abnormality is found, we will ensure that you are informed immediately and a management plan co-ordinated with you, your GP or referring doctor and possibly one of our breast specialists.
Assessment and management for breast symptoms
San Breast Care offers a full range of diagnostic services as well as access to a team of expert breast specialists for women and men who have noted a change in their breasts. Any change or ongoing concern should be assessed thoroughly. San Breast Care will make sure everything that is needed will be done in a timely and efficient way. We know this can be stressful and we want you to get the answers you need with as little fuss as possible.
Management of a wide range of benign breast problems
People can experience a wide range of breast-related issues – including pain, skin changes, nipple skin changes, nipple discharge, infection, lumps, thickening, size discrepancy, shape abnormalities, size and scarring.
It is generally best to have a GP review the situation and then refer either to San Breast Care Radiology for breast imaging or to one of our specialists for advice and management. In these cases our specialists will generally be dedicated breast surgeons or specialist plastic surgeons. All of our breast surgeons have specialised training in diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant breast problems.
San Breast Care services include:
Radiology | Surgery | Medical Oncology | ICON Radiation Oncology | Genetic Oncology | Health & Wellness Services | Patient Navigators
You are able to access any or all of our services at any point, if and when they are required. You will need a referral from a medical practitioner to San Breast Care. Your starting point will be breast imaging, located within San Radiology, on Level 3 of the Tulloch Building on the Sydney Adventist Hospital campus.

Breast Imaging
San Breast Care Imaging is a dedicated stand-alone breast imaging service conveniently located within San Radiology and Nuclear Medicine on Level 3 of the San Hospital, Wahroonga. We have state-of-the-art imaging and diagnostic equipment, dedicated technical and nursing staff and breast specialist radiologists.
A breast biopsy or further imaging may be recommended. We will do everything we can to make sure this is done without delay and that results are made available as soon as possible to your referring doctor.
Sometimes the advice may be to see a breast specialist after initial imaging and before anything else is done. If this is the case, we can help organise a consultation with one of our breast specialists in consultation with your referring doctor.
Surgery
San Breast Care has dedicated accredited specialist breast surgeons and plastic and reconstructive surgeons who provide a wide range of surgical options for both benign and malignant breast problems. Our surgical services include all the latest surgical techniques including oncoplastic surgery, implant and free flap reconstruction techniques.
Our surgeons are often the first clinical specialist a patient with a breast problem will see. They play an essential role in assessing the patient and the tests performed to formulate a management plan and to provide the best advice. Our surgeons strongly believe that patients should be very much involved in the decision-making process. Our surgeons all work within our multidisciplinary team which facilitates a collaborative approach to management planning when needed.
Oncology
Oncology services available through San Breast Care include Radiation Oncology (Radiotherapy), Medical Oncology and Genetic Oncology.
