Cardiac Rehabilitation
Heart disease is the number one cause of death in Australia according to research by the National Heart Foundation of Australia. While there is no cure for heart disease, positive lifestyle choices can enhance your heart health, and reduce the risk of another event. Rehabilitation is key to getting back to a normal life as soon as possible after surgery and the San Cardiac Rehabilitation programs can reduce the incidence of subsequent cardiovascular events, increase your chances of survival and improve your quality of life.
Our cardiac rehabilitation staff are dedicated to:
- Providing a supportive caring environment for our clients
- Assisting clients to return to their family/work with confidence
- Educating and enabling our clients and their families to adopt healthier lifestyle behaviours.

Outpatient Heart Health Program
This program encourages positive lifestyle choices which all work towards giving you the best heart health and gives you the confidence to return to family and work life. It is the next step following discharge after a stent or bypass surgery and is also recommended for patients who have had a pacemaker, valve surgery or for those who want to reduce their cardiac risk factors.
Sessions are run by Exercise Physiologists and Registered Cardiac Nurses, providing a safe environment to increase your physical fitness. The program runs 2-3 days a week for approximately 6-8 weeks, and is available to all heart patients, not just patients treated at Sydney Adventist Hospital.
The cost of the program is covered by most health funds.
Ongoing Support - Maintenance programs
At the completion of the Outpatient Heart Health program we offer ongoing support through our gym where clients can exercise independently in a caring and supportive environment.
Depending on your health fund and level of cover, you may be eligible for some rebate. Talk to our cardiac rehab staff for more information.
Conditioning for Life
Conditioning for Life is an exercise program for those with reduced physical function, for example patients with:
- Reduced heart function from any cause
- Chronic lung disease/limitations
- Reduced muscle strength/fitness due to chronic conditions or following an illness.
Sessions are individualised and tailored to each patient. They involve muscle strength, coordination and balance, with the desired outcome to improve physical function.
The program is held on Mondays and Fridays and runs for 7 weeks. All sessions are supervised by an exercise physiologist and/or cardiac registered nurse and are covered by most private health funds.
Cardiac Rehabilitation staff will obtain consent from your GP or cardiologist before you commence this program.
