Sleep Disorders Unit (Children)
The San Children’s Sleep Disorders Unit is a private diagnostic unit at Sydney Adventist Hospital for patients under the care of a paediatric sleep physician. As the first private children sleep unit in NSW, the Unit sets the standard for sleep tests and has a wealth of experience.
All paediatric sleep disorders are covered by this service, including:
- Obstructive sleep apnoea
- Insomnia and circadian rhythm disturbance
- Parasomnias, including night terrors, teeth grinding, sleep walking, sleep talking, head banging, body rocking, bed wetting
- Narcolepsy
- Periodic leg movements / Restless legs syndrome
- Chronic Lung disease
Indicators for a sleep study may include:
- Family history or high risk of SIDS
- Snoring
- Bedtime refusal, frequent night waking, delayed sleep onset
- Behavioural disorders related to sleep
- Nightmares
- Failure to thrive
- Excessive daytime tiredness
- Waking with headache
- Persistent night cough
Your GP can refer you to one of the Sleep Physicians listed below for a consultation. If indicated, the Sleep Physician will then refer the child to the San for a sleep study. All studies conducted at the San are charged at the scheduled fee.
A specialists' referral is required in order to book a sleep investigation.
