Education & Research
The San has an ongoing commitment to the education and training of healthcare professionals. The hospital has trained nurses since it opened in 1903, and helped shaped nursing culture in Australia by being the first hospital in the country to train male nurses. The San continues its commitment to training the health workforce of the future through its ongoing collaboration with Avondale University and its partnership with the Australian National University (ANU).
As a teaching hospital, we also invest heavily in medical research through affiliations with major tertiary education institutions. Thanks to the San’s strong academic partnership with Australian National University, our team has ongoing opportunities to be involved in research and teaching activities across all disciplines.
