Life beyond cancer
Our whole-person approach to wellbeing
Having cancer can be a life-changing experience – not only physically, but also emotionally. And whilst more people than ever before are surviving cancer, it can still be an experience that alters your outlook and leaves you with many questions about life beyond cancer. At the San, we’re here to support you through this transition and to help you move forward so you can once again live life to the fullest.
Support groups
Many people find relief and comfort in sharing experiences with others who can personally relate – which is why we offer a number of regular support groups. All meetings are held in the Cancer Support Centre’s Rotary Room at Jacaranda Lodge.
Seminars and lectures
Throughout the year, the Cancer Support Centre holds various free education seminars and lectures. To see what’s coming up, check out our event calendar.
Complementary treatments
Cancer treatment can be hard on the body and mind. To help you recover your sense of wellbeing, we offer a number of free complementary services to soothe your body and restore your spirit – from yoga classes to reflexology.
Genetic testing and counselling
As you get to the end of your cancer treatment, you may have questions about whether your disease has any genetic implications and could affect other members of your family. The San offers genetic counselling services through Sydney Cancer Genetics.
Screening services
Toward the end of your treatment plan, your doctor will talk to you about regular screening or surveillance you should do over time – either self-checks, regular GP examinations or other suggested screening services. Talk to your specialist about what sort of ongoing screening you should do and what services the San provides.
Life after treatment programs
In addition to the services we provide, the Cancer Council of NSW provides a range of programs, webinars, information services, legal and financial counselling, emergency assistance programs and online resources for you to tap into.
