Bookings & enquiries
If you want to have your baby at San Maternity, the first step is to see a San obstetrician. If you haven’t yet chosen an obstetrician, take a look at the profiles of our specialist doctors and get in touch. Your chosen obstetrician will then give you a referral letter for the San following your first appointment.
Booking your San Maternity admission
To book your stay at San Maternity, the first step is to complete your admission forms online.
If you are unable to complete this online, or have enquiries about your booking, please contact us on 02 9480 9903 or email maternitybookings@sah.org.au.
Take a pre-natal education class
San Maternity patients have access to a mix of online and face-to-face educational classes, most of which are free of charge, through our online maternity education platform Cradle.
Helping to prepare you
It’s normal to have questions about the birth of your baby. At 35 weeks gestation you will receive a booklet via email that answers some of the many questions you may have about your upcoming admission. You will also be sent an invitation via text at 36 weeks to join a group midwife chat via Zoom.
For any other questions phone 02 9480 4154 or email maternityenquiries@sah.org.au.
Understanding the costs
When you have your baby you will receive an account from any of your treating doctors (eg. obstetrician, anaesthetist and paediatrician) and the hospital. Accounts from doctors are separate to your hospital account, and are generally not fully covered by Medicare and your health fund. These accounts can relate to both yours or your baby's care.
The estimated cost of your maternity stay will depend on whether you have private health insurance. If you do, you’ll need to have served your waiting period before giving birth for your stay to be covered. We advise you to contact your health fund to enquire about your individual level of cover for Obstetrics care, including Special Care Nursery costs, should this be required.
For an estimate of the cost for your stay, please phone the Patient Services Department on 02 9480 9903 or email maternitybookings@sah.org.au.
If you don’t have private health insurance (or have overseas health insurance), you’ll need to pay the balance of your estimated account two months prior to your expected date of delivery. Self-funded patients can obtain an estimate of costs by completing and returning this Fee Estimate Form.
