Maternity

Our facilities

Each year, San Maternity welcomes around 1,700 new babies into the world. We want every one of them to experience the very best start in life – and our exceptional facilities help to make this possible.

Located on the top two levels of Clark Tower, our unit has forty purpose-built, architecturally designed private rooms – along with dedicated birthing unit, baby nurseries and women’s health facility. Together with our many onsite services, this makes for a maternity experience that’s calming, comfortable and convenient.

Birthing suites

San Maternity has nine dedicated birthing suites, all with electronic beds to provide support in different birthing positions. All suites have ensuites with showers and baths, and two have specifically designed pools for water births. To help make you more comfortable during labour, you have access to birth chairs, birth balls, electric aromatherapy burners, microwaves and ice dispensers. Flat screen TVs, free WiFi and day beds are also provided for you and your partner.

Private postnatal suites

Spacious, warm and inviting, our private postnatal suites create a comfortable environment for you, your bub and visiting family and friends. Every room has its own ensuite, as well as facilities for partners to stay overnight – and views over local bushland create a calming atmosphere. Thoughtful details include breastfeeding chairs, baby bath facilities, refrigerators, safes, flat screen TVs, and WiFi. The maternity ward is locked for you and your baby’s security, with surveillance cameras installed throughout – and our midwives are on hand 24/7.

Baby nurseries

Having your baby in your room is a wonderful way to bond with your bub and gain your confidence. Our midwives are always on hand however you may choose to take advantage of our well baby nursery. This is staffed at night, and midwives will bring your baby to you for feeding.

Some newborns do require extra support in the early days, whether it’s due to premature delivery, low birth weight or illness. These babies are cared for in our Special Care Nursery – an accredited high dependency neonatal unit staffed with highly trained personnel, who will keep you updated about your baby’s progress at all times.

Parents, grandparents and baby's siblings are welcome to visit anytime, however we do ask that only one set of grandparents visit at a time, and that grandparents and baby's siblings are accompanied by a parent unless other arrangements have been made with the Special Care Nursery staff prior to their visit. Parents are asked to check with nursing staff regarding visits by any other family or friends. Unfortunately no children other than baby's siblings are allowed to visit.

Food & hospitality

During your stay, you’ll be catered to with a menu prepared by San dieticians to be both nutritious and delicious – with menu selections available each day.

San Maternity also has a range of facilities to make things more comfortable and enjoyable during your stay. Our beverage bay offers free beverages and stunning views, and you also have easy access to all sorts of on-site food outlets and services – from our various cafes to the florist, pharmacy, book shop, and gift shop.
