Blessing of Cardiac Catheter Lab Three
A spiritual blessing was held on Friday 2nd June to celebrate the completion of the refurbishment and installation of the latest generation Philips system into cardiac catheter lab 3.
The blessing was held inside the lab and included a welcome from AHCL CEO Brett Goods and Chaplain Julie Fehlberg. In reflecting on the meaning of the space to patients, Pr Fehlberg shared she had thought about the concept of the heart in both a historical, medical and biblical sense. For instance, the Israelites had no concept or word for the brain. Consequently, they imagined that all intellectual activity took place in the heart. In the bible, the heart is the centre of all parts of human existence – Proverbs 4:23 says “Guard your heart because from it flows you whole life.”
The cardiac unit opened at the San in 1979. At the time, the San was the first private hospital in Australia commissioned to open a full cardiac unit. In 2022, the cardiac catheter labs performed 3,300 procedures.
We are grateful to all those involved in the refurbishment. This project is one of many made possible through the visionary support of the San Foundation. We would also like to acknowledge our expert staff and cardiologists who will benefit from this latest upgrade.
