Patient Rights & Responsibilities
The San is committed to delivering the highest possible standard of health care. As a patient, you have certain rights when seeking medical treatment and care, and also responsibilities relating to that treatment and care.
We are a teaching hospital and an important component of the San’s role in meeting community healthcare needs is the provision of clinical education and placements for medical, nursing and other allied health trainees. Participation of trainees may include observation and involvement in your care while under appropriate supervision. You are free to refuse to allow a trainee to participate in your care at any time. Your refusal will not adversely affect the treatment you receive.
The summary below provides an overview patient rights and responsibilities. If you would like more detailed information you can download our full Rights and Responsibilities brochure.

You have a right to provide feedback, compliments, suggestions or complaints without it affecting the way that you are treated. We welcome your feedback and will appoint an appropriate person to address your concerns if you raise a complaint.
Feedback forms are available online on our website, in your room / treatment area, or ask a staff member. The form can be completed online, emailed or posted using our contact details below.
