Profile
Professor Yong is a general and interventional cardiologist who graduated with 1st Class Honours from the University of Sydney. He is a Staff Specialist and the Director of the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at Concord Hospital. He serves as a Clinical Professor at Macquarie University and Associate Professor at the University of Sydney. Dr Yong completed a 2 year postdoctoral and clinical interventional cardiology fellowship at Stanford University Medical Centre. He has published over 100 research papers and book chapters. He regularly serves as an invited faculty speaker at national and international cardiology conferences. Dr Yong has admitting rights and performs cardiac procedures at Concord, Royal Prince Alfred, Sydney Adventist, Strathfield Private and Macquarie University Hospitals. His clinical interests include interventional cardiology, coronary heart disease, structural heart disease, and preventive cardiology. He is an experienced, high volume interventional cardiologist who believes in compassionate and ethical clinical care.
Research
Professor Yong has particular research interests in the field of coronary physiology and intervention. He completed a PhD degree at the University of Sydney in 2010 that was funded by an NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship. He was awarded the Dean’s Research Prize for best postgraduate publication as well as the Peter Bancroft prize for his PhD thesis in 2010. He was then awarded an NHMRC Neil-Hamilton Overseas Postdoctoral Training Fellowship to undertake further clinical and research work at Stanford University in 2011-2013. He has published over 100 articles and book chapters including publications in top tier journals such as Lancet, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology and European Heart Journal. As co-chief investigator, he has been awarded in excess of $10 million in NHMRC and industry grants. Professor Yong continues to supervise PhD and research students, and currently serves as an Ethics Scientific Committee member at Concord Hospital.
