Profile
Dr Hale has a special interest in hip and knee surgery, including arthroscopies, anterior cruciate reconstructions and joint replacement surgery. He graduated from the University of Sydney in 1982 and completed orthopaedic training on The Sydney Northside Training Scheme obtaining his Fellowship in 1988. After being Senior Orthopaedic Registrar at RPAH he completed a Fellowship at Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Hospital, Exeter working with Prof Robin Ling and as an honorary Research Officer in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Exeter. On returning to Sydney in 1990 Dr Hale completed a knee Fellowship with Dr Neal Thomson as well as commencing his private practice. Dr Hale has appointments at Sydney Adventist Hospital, Norwest Private Hospital and Hornsby Kuring-gai Hospital. He has been Chairman of HKH Management Committee, The AOA Board of Studies and Federal Board as well as Federal Government Committees including the Prosthetic Devices Committee, Knee Clinical Advisory Group and the TGA Orthopaedic Expert Working Group. He is currently on the Board of the AOA National Joint Replacement Registry and is an active member of The Australian Knee Society and international societies.
Research
Dr Hale has a number of current research interests including both clinical and animal research into cartilage repair and regeneration eg the use of Smart Nails and the nano fracture technique. He also has current projects involving the role of arthroscopy in the presence of arthritis and risk reduction in joint replacement surgery.
