Profile
A/Prof. Edirimanne is a specialist Breast, Endocrine and General Surgeon. He graduated with honours from Flinders University, Adelaide. He completed his specialist general surgical training at Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and awarded his fellowship in 2007. He subsequently underwent three years of post fellowship training in breast and endocrine surgery. A/Prof. Edirimanne had his breast surgical training including oncoplastic and reconstructive surgery at Christchurch hospital and Westmead Breast Cancer Institute and became a founding member of Breast surgeons of Australia and New Zealand (BreastSurgANZ) in 2011. His Endocrine surgical training was at Christchurch Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner/Freemantle Hospitals in Perth. He is full member of Australia and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons (AES) since 2011. A/Prof. Edirimanne is also member of General Surgeons of Australia (GSA) and part of the GSA leadership group representing Academy of Surgical Educators (ASE) of RACS. His current surgical practice includes breast cancer surgery, oncoplastic and implant based reconstructive surgery in breast cancer patients, thyroid surgery, parathyroid surgery, adrenal surgery and elective/emergency general surgery.
Research
As a Clinical Associate Professor at University of Sydney, A/Prof. Edirimanne actively involves in research and teaching activities. His research areas, both clinical and basic science include breast cancer, thyroid cancer, autoimmune thyroid diseases, parathyroid diseases, evidence based surgery, surgical education and acute general surgical care. His research gets regularly presented in national and international conferences and published in internationally reputable journals. He is a supervisor of post-graduate research students, reviewer of international journals and has been member of breast cancer guideline group of Cancer Australia and general surgery curriculum review committee of General Surgeons of Australia (GSA).
