Profile
Dr Timothy Middleton is a Sydney trained endocrinologist with a special interest in diabetes mellitus. He is an honours graduate of the University of Sydney (BSc Adv (Hons I), MBBS). He completed his advanced training in endocrinology at the Concord Repatriation General Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Following advanced training he completed his Master of Philosophy (Medicine) in which is examined cardiac effects of sulfonylurea-related hypoglycaemia. He then went on to complete his PhD in the field of young adult-onset type 2 diabetes. Dr Middleton is dedicated to training the next generation of medical professionals and he holds an Honorary Clinical Lecturer position with the University of Sydney.
Dr Middleton has acted as a peer reviewer for Diabetes Care and the Journal of Diabetes and Its Complications. He is a member of the Australian Diabetes Society and the Endocrine Society of Australia. He holds an appointment as a part-time staff specialist at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Diabetes Centre and the Collaborative Centre for Cardiometabolic Health in Psychosis Service within the Sydney Local Health District. In addition, he holds accreditation as an endocrinologist at Sydney Adventist Hospital and he provides outpatient care at the Shore Specialist Centre within the San Clinic. Dr Middleton strives to provide high-quality, evidence-based care for all of his patients.
Research
Dr Middleton's current research interests include improving understanding of diabetic complications and improving the management of diabetes mellitus through the incorporation of emerging technologies and utilisation of novel treatment strategies. In 2019 he was awarded a Department of Health, Medical Research Future Fund, Rapid Applied Research Translation Grant for a project that set out to assess the utility of an enhanced SMS-based support and reminder program in the setting of young adult-onset type 2 diabetes.
